When: | Monthly on Monday mornings 10:00 am-12:00 pm 3rd Monday - outdoor and indoor meetings |
Venue: | Bakewell Friends Meeting House |
The group usually alternates between an indoor meeting with a presentation or discussion on a topic of interest and a walk in the local area looking at historic things of interest.
Meetings are usually on the 3rd Monday in the month. Indoor meetings are between 10am and midday, upstairs at Bakewell Friends Meeting House. Walks will take place at a prearranged and time.
The first two meetings in September and October were a talk by Allan about Darley Dale and up Hall Dale and then a 3 mile walk looking at the history in that area.
November's meeting was an opportunity for group members to talk about their interests in the area, including old paths and trackways in the area and maps of the area showing how the area changed over 200+ years. We also discussed plans for the future.
December's meeting, if the weather is ok, will be a walk from the end of Coombs Road in Bakewell to the Haddon Estate and back along the river meadows, particularly looing at how the paths were changed when the Manners family moved back into Haddon Hall.
January's meeting will look at some mapping and other software that we might find useful for our historical and geographical research.
The group is a good size, around 15-16 members, but one or two more could probably be accommodated.
